A POEM A DAY 39

HER EYES

Did she walk away

With light in her eyes

As she said her last goodbye?

After all, he was her forever guy

And for his love she once vied

Even though he made her cry

And told her lies

To sanitize

His demoralized

Love guise

There was a time

She thought she spied

A man of promise, who edified

And held her in high

Esteem, which intensified

Her desire to compromise

And even disguise

The manner in which he euthanized

The light behind her eyes

But as time went by

A friend and ally

From deep within

Who was strong and wise

Called out to her,

“Arise! Arise!

Oh, Butterfly!

And take to the sky!”

As self-love developed

The scales abscised

And she could finally see

The beauty of I

So yes, she walked away

With light in her eyes

As she said her last goodbye!
