A POEM A DAY 78

THE FOX AND THE HEN

The little red fox said to the hen,
"Where are all the women and men?"
The hen said, "They are off to the dance."
The fox replied, "Well, this is my chance."
"Your chance for what?" asked the hen without pause.
The fox smiled as he unfurled his paws.
He licked his lips and smacked his chops.
But the hen didn’t notice cause she was clucking nonstop.
The fox steadied himself to go in for the kill
And then jumped right into the mouth of Bill.
That ole hound had come out from his den,
To save the life of that unwitting hen.
