A POEM A DAY 82

THE SIDE OF SELF

Sometimes I am hot.
Sometimes I am cold.
But most often I am lukewarm.
Trying to walk the line
between self and God.
I straddle the fence
Not quite able to balance
I often slip to
To the side of self
Periodically,
I take Him down
And wipe away the dust
By calling on His name
Or throwing out a praise
May be saying a quick prayer
But its all for the benefit of self

Lord,
Tell me how to
Keep you off the shelf
Give me the wisdom
To put you before myself
Help me tear down the fence
That stands in my path
Make my heart yearn
For Your presence
Without Your aid
I will remain lukewarm
And continue to lean on
The side of self
