A POEM A DAY 133

CLAN

Define me as an individual
Not by the color of my skin
I am more than my covering
I am diverse in
Many ways
And my personality
Comes in different shades
Not just of browns
But of reds and blues
Pinks and greens
And yellows, too
I am every shade known
And unknown to man
I am a woman
Of many clans
How do I know?
Because my DNA
Tells me so
Not some ancestry
Defined in a lab
By the same
Estab ﹘﹘
lishment born of
Power and greed
Who must keep
Their foot on my neck
In order to succeed
That same foot of power
Has oppressed many a man
From every nation
Of every clan
So, brothers and sisters
Open your eyes
That you may recognize
That the separation
Between you and I
Is a thinly veiled
And corrosive disguise
Meant to dehumanize
﹘﹘ Being human
When will you
open your mind
And see the illusion
That has plagued mankind
And brought nations
To ruin
Stand with me
In revolution
That this nonsense may
Come to conclusion
