A POEM A DAY 136

PARALLEL

He placed a picture
Into my hand
And before I could
Even understand
The going ons
Inside my head
My heart ran away
And I could barely stand
My knees buckled
And I lost my breath
It was a moment
More cruel than death
For, I saw the life
We could have had
Flash before my eyes
Now, you may think me mad
But I truly believe
That in some parallel universe
The spell was broken
Which lifted the curse
Off this ill-fate love
And it blossomed and grew
Against the odds
It soared and flew
Beyond the stars
Of the known universe
Somewhere love grows
Despite the curse.
