A POEM A DAY 138

SILENT

...and then I fell in love
But that was not the plan
We were only ever
Meant to be lovers
You and I
How can I go on
When my heart
Is in such distress
I'll have to make a choice
I can keep silent
And we can continue
This lover's soiree
Or I can keep silent
And walk away
Neither choice is appealing
But I must consider my heart
She has fallen hard
And is sinking fast
Amid unvoiced love
Do I forsake her
For the softness
Of your lips
And the tenderness
Of your passion
There is another option
I could tell you how I feel
But, I fear your rejection
My heart would surely break
That I could not bear
So, I'll choose
The lesser of two evils
I'll keep silent
And walk away
