A POEM A DAY 158

MANY SPLENDORED

Love is a many splendored thing
It can walk on water
And it can take wing
It can sprout flowers
And move mountains
And flow with passion
From concrete fountains
It can interrupt space and time
It is pleasure
It is divine
It can make a grown man weep
As he watches his baby sleep
It can be big and grandiose
It can influence the ethos
Like when Rosa sat on that bus
Or like when Jesus didn't make a fuss
As the crowd yelled, "Crucify, Crucify!"
Even on the cross, he said with a sigh,
"Father, forgive them,
for they know not what they do."
He did that for me
He did that for you
"For God so love the world"
Is a many splendored thing
Love walked on water
And love took wing!
