A POEM A DAY 335

LAST YEAR’S FORTUNE COOKIE

Last night,
I dreamed a dream
I was somewhere
In the in-between
Where angels trod
And souls meet
The place I go
In my deepest sleep
My soul walked along
As souls do
And who do I see
Before me, you
With a kiss
You said goodbye
I stood there confused
Wondering why
But, in the morning
When I woke
A tall, dark
And slender bloke
Broke,
The mournful news
That I knew
To be true
Because last year's
Fortune cookie said
In words tented
A faded red
"He'll say goodbye
With a kiss"
And you did
Now my heart languishes
