A WOMAN’S PRAYER
Let me tell you a little story
About prayer and its validity
Now this story isn't for those
With faintheartedness or trepidity
So, stop reading now
If you don’t have the constitution
Because this story may get
A tad bit gruesome
There once was a woman
In the throes of depression
There were days that she prayed
In fervent succession
"Lord, don’t let him
Come in here
Acting crazy today!
Cause I will
Lose my mind
And he will pay!"
You see,
The price he paid
Would have been with his life
Because she had already visualized
Taking a butcher knife
And like a skilled executioner
She would so disembowel
She wouldn’t utter a word
While he writhed and howled
She would watch him die
Before her eyes
And make for certain
He couldn’t be revived
And when the deed
Was finally done
She'd pick up the phone
To call 9-1-1
"Can you send the police?
I've killed a man."
She'd speak without inflection
Completely deadpan
Now,
The reason this tragedy never happened
Is because on the days she prayed that prayer
Her words would travel
Through the air
To God's ears
And he would send
The Angel of Mercy
Who would amend
The attitude of the man
And when he opened the door
He didn’t act crazy
And she didn’t have to go to the drawer
To pick up her weapon of choice
The executioner's knife
And the unsuspecting man
Didn’t lose his life
