    LEAP

For so long you've walked loves tightrope
Hoping you wont fall, hoping against hope
In search of a heart much like your own
But with each attempt you're tossed and thrown
Into the abyss of shattered dreams
Where you can hear the silent screams
Of long ago and forsaken love
My friend, take heed and rise above
The lowly depths of love's despair
Because your someday someone is just over there
With just a few more steps and maybe a leap
You'll embrace the love you're meant to keep

    jOURNEY WITHIN

I long to explore your world
    Your hideaways and hidden doors
    Your stained-glass windows
    And hardwood floors
I want to take each stair
    One step at a time
    So that you may feel
    As I cautiously climb
    Into the light
    Of your precious soul
    So that I may see
    Your pieces in whole
    After I’ve explored
    Your soft insides
    I want to peruse
    Your earthy outsides
    Walk barefooted
    Through your blades of grass
    Hoping you will allow
    This stranger’s trespass
As I run through your orchard
    Feeling crispness of air
    And delighting in the juices
    Of your sun-kissed pears
I want to walk the path
    To that old banyan tree
    Just to read the wisdom
    Upon its leaves
    I hope someday
    You will invite me in
    For then my journey
    Will truly begin

    NEW DECOR

     Pieces and parts
     Of my broken heart
     Lie scattered on the floor
They're right where you left them
     In chaos and mayhem
As part of my home's new décor

    MY VOICE

    I lost myself in you

To the point of not knowing

Where you stopped and I began

I mean, I literally lost myself in you

To the point of eating mint chocolate chip

    When I prefer butter pecan

    Mint chocolate chip

    Was your flavor of choice

But I lost myself in you

    I gave you my voice

    I lessened myself

    To make you feel taller

    I lessened myself

    I made myself smaller

So small that I began to evaporate

In order to stroke and satiate

    Your pubescent-like ego

    I let myself go

    But today I choose

    To sever the ties

    To set aside

    All of your lies

    Today, I revoke

    Every word that you spoke

    And as your voice wanes

    In rapid decline

    I feel the power

In the voice that is mine

    REMEMBER WHEN

     Steal away with me
     Back to when
     Love was fresh and new
     When greens were green
     And blues were blue
     When fragrance filled the air
     Like a heavy morning dew
     Back to when
     You loved me
     And I loved you

     Back in the days of
     Remember when
     We laid in bed
     And skin met skin
     With hearts at peace
     Engrossed in Zen
     I remember when
     Before you walked away
     And hurt walked in

Our first white Christmas. Had to let the brother experience a cup of snow. We take no moment for granted. ~Calondra McCarter~

    A CUP OF SNOW

    From a cup of snow

    She did bestow

    Upon his soul

    A gesture of love.

    Not love grandiose

    Or from the shallows

But love in its purest form

    The kind of love

    That can swallow one whole.

Not taking a moment for granted

    She left him enchanted

    On their first white Christmas

    What happened after that

    Ain’t nobody’s business!

    Simona A. Brinson

Inspired by the love of Calondra McCarter for her man, Greg McCarter. Thank you for sharing your love.

    EMPTY

Why is it that we try to fill ourselves from empty jars? Sure, he’s a beautiful vessel–Tall, dark, handsome, and smooth. But his vessel is empty, devoid of the capacity to give, to nourish, to replenish. So empty, in fact, that he can’t even accept what you’re pouring into him. You can pour and pour and pour, but he will never have the capacity to reciprocate. Why? Because there can be no reciprocity when you’re pouring into a sieve. So why keep pouring?

  • A POEM A DAY 1-3

    December 26, 2020

I hadn’t written a poem since December 22, 2019. Then on December 23rd I decided it was time to work my creative muscle. Within minutes of finishing that poem, I had written another one, which was completed on December 4th at 12:15am. I decided right then and there to challenge myself to write a poem a day for the next 365 days. I am up for the challenge!

    Oppose me

    So that I may rise

    From this slumbering sleep

    Oppose me

    With your venomous vile

I will not wane nor weep

    Oppose me

    For my wings needs stretching

    As I prepare for flight

    Oppose me

    With flaming words of fire

    And watch my soul ignite
