IF YOU NEVER

Where is the love
That men dream about
And women crave
Love that drives some
To madness
And others to their grave
That love eternal
Long-lasting and true
The one that turns
Dark skies to blue
That gentle love
Strong and pure
The test of time
It will endure
The love that resides
At rainbow’s end
That love that thus,
gives life portends

Epiphany
Sometimes I cry
Like now you see
Each tear
Its own epiphany
Of love forlorn
And lost at sea
Adrift, I wait
For a change of wind
Seeking cloud cover
To soothe my skin
Left dry and thirsty
And nearly singed
By the crudeness
Of your love
But, alas, reprieve
From the sky above
Who opened her hand
To rid me of
These hot,
dark, dusky days
And with each raindrop
She did so blaze
The path for which
To lift the haze
Sometimes I cry
Like now you see
Each tear
Its own epiphany
Of love and joy
And jubilee

A STROLL
Lie naked with me
Let’s bare our souls
Lying skin on skin
Let’s take a stroll
Into the depths
Of our heart’s content
Where on sunshine
And love are meant
To dance and delight
Harmoniously
Where words aren’t thrown
Carelessly
But, spoken in a way that
Connection is woven
Into the fabric of the other’s soul
Take my hand, let’s take a stroll

BECAUSE FEAR SAID
one day you’re gonna die without ever having lived
you’d rather hide in a life deprived
of life’s simple pleasures
such as loving freely
jumping ramps and popping wheelies
tracing figure eights
on roller skates
and rolling in the sand
or walking hand-in-hand
with that girl, you know the one
that got away because fear said run
she’s getting, too close
and instead of leaping into her soul
you simply froze
you played it safe, she walked away
what a price to pay
because you chose to stay
in a life deprived
one day you’re gonna die without ever having lived

SHE CARRIED
The things she carried: His brokenness. His darkness. His abuse. Physical. Sexual. Psychological. The weight of his words – Careless. Daggered. Cleverered. Unspoken. His insecurities. His infidelities. His fractures. His fissures. His busted ego. His lack of integrity. His false bravado. His cruelty. His lack. His oppression. His deprivation. His banal existence. His infantile masculinity. She was so bogged down with all his baggage that she was incapable of carrying her own. So before you judge her, consider the things she carried. Simona A. Brinson

I DON’T CRY ANYMORE
You were my best friend.
My sister.
My soul mate.
God created you for me.
But I refuse to be abused
By your words and by your actions
Though they came from a place
Of hurt and insecurity.
There is, was and never will be
An excuse for the way you treated me.
Cast aside as if I were just some
Somebody you knew in passing.
You knew the depths of my soul
Or at least I thought you did.
There is no adhesive that can ever repair
The irreparable tears in my heart
Shattered.
Bruised.
But I don’t cry anymore
Because I finally let it go
Though I have forgiven you
I know now
That I can only love you from afar.
