What Heartbreak Leaves Behind
No one comes back the same
from heartbreak.
You return carrying pieces
of yourself
you do not remember breaking.
Your hands still look like your hands,
your face still answers to its name,
but something beneath the skin
has shifted.
You learn how silence can bruise.
How an empty chair
can become a presence.
How a song can find
the one wound
you forgot to cover.
You become careful
with doors,
with promises,
with people who say
trust me.
Some softness leaves.
Some strength arrives.
And somewhere between
what was taken
and what survived,
you become someone new—
not untouched,
not unbroken,
but still here.
