    LACK OF

    When you leave
    You should never look back
    There is nothing there
    But unadulterated lack
    Lack of love
    Lack of respect
    Lack of compassion
    And a lot of regret
    So, then when you leave
    Don’t look back
    Don’t backslide
    And don’t back track

    MELANCHOLY

What do I wish to be?
    I wish to be free
    Of these loathsome blues
    I really do
To be in a state of perpetual melancholy
Stoic, hiding from light and folly
It is wearisome, this state of discontent
    And wondering where happiness went
I hope she is on the other side of night
Waiting for me in a halo of light

    A TRIP TO MARS

This is the truth I tell you
     The truth indeed
     Of untruths and lies
     I have no need
     You see,
     I sailed to the moon
     Just yesterday night
     I took a ship
     Then hopped a flight
     Across the 'verse
     Among the stars
     My final destination
     A planet called Mars
     My friend Neil deGrasse Tyson
     Was there to greet me
     And standing beside him
     Was ole Mr. Milkie
Now, I told you the truth
I have no need to scheme
     I told you the truth
     I saw in a dream

    LOVE ME A LOT

     He loves me
     He loves me not
     He loves me
     He loves me not
     He loves me
     He loves me not
     Who cares
     If he loves me
     Or not
     I love me
     I love me, a lot!

    PAPER & PEN

     As a child
     I had no voice
     Because children were seen
     And not heard
     But I had words
     And paper and pen
     Became my friends
     And to this day
     We're just as close
     As we were then

    LIBERTY

     When night falls
     The darkness calls
     Her out by name
     Reminding her of the shame
     Heaved upon her
     By a predator

     She closes her eyes
     And comes to realize
That she's on a head trip
     And has taken ownership
     Of his guilt and depravity
     His turpitude and inhumanity

     She opens her eyes
     And with conviction decides
     To relinquish the lies
     She kept bottled inside
For fear of the world's reproach
But now with boldness, she optimistically approached
     The nigh shores of freedom
     No longer the victim

     She closes her eyes
     And without compromise
     She ends the head trip
     And surrenders ownership
     Of the guilt and shame
     Cause she wasn’t to blame
     For his lack of humanity
     Turpitude or depravity

     Now when night falls
     And the darkness calls
     Her out by name
     She defiantly proclaims
     Her liberty
     From captivity

  • FREEDOM’S TREE

    FREEDOM’S TREE

    February 15, 2021
On February 15th my brother died
Hanging from the Tree of Suicide
No longer able to mask the pain
Or deal with his burden’s heavy strain
His burden not easy, his yoke too tight
He took a rope, thin and slight
And fastened it to that Unassuming Tree
In his quest to be set free
I hope he found the Freedom he sought
That couldn’t be attained through the drugs he bought
Maybe the only Freedom he could see
Was hanging from a limb on that Lychee Nut Tree

    A LOST SOUL 2

     In the silence of night
     My brother died
     Hanging from the tree
     Of suicide
     Alone and dejected
     A lost soul rejected
     Consumed by his plight
     He gave up the fight

    ASKEW

     Your words
    They do not move me
    Though they appear
    Strong and true
    My heart finds them
    A bit askew
    Debatable and often moot
    Because you actions
    Tell the truth
